The reserve is situated at the extreme south of Costa Rica, along the well-named Paradise Road, connecting Punta Uva to the Talamanca valley. It winds between the Costa Rican jungle and the green fields that are surprisingly close to the beaches of Manzanillo (elected the most beautiful beach in Costa Rica by the 2011 Lonely Planet guide), Punta Uva, Playa Chiquita and Cocles. The closest town, at about 15 minutes by car, is Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, a symbol to the "Pura Vida" way of life.
